November, 2011: HOUSING AUTHORITY DRAFTING NEW LEASE
As a result of the adoption of an updated Admissions and Continued Occupancy Plan (ACOP) in the summer of 2011, the Authority has drafted a new lease to conform to the revised policy. Upon adoption by the Board of Commissioners a public review process of at least thirty (30) days will be initiated. This or a modified version of the lease based on public input will be acted upon in January of 2012 by the Board of Commissioners for implementation. Click here to view the latest lease draft.
September, 2011: HOUSING AUTHORITY RESIDENTS TO FORM TENANT COUNCIL
The residents of the Housing Authority of the City of Roswell are in the process of forming a tenant council. The housing authority administration has retained the services of consultant Linda Baptiste and the nonprofit organization Every Women Works, Inc. to provide independent guidance to the residents to organize, develop by-laws, elect leadership, and eventually nominate a candidate for a seat on the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority to be designated by the Mayor of the City of Roswell, Georgia.
Once in place, the Council will be asked to review the effectiveness of housing authority policies and practices, make recommendations for expanded tenant services and activities, have opportunity and a position on the agenda of every Commissioner Board meeting, and have input into the redevelopment plans of the housing authority.
The process is in the early stages having completed a comprehensive survey, conducted orientation meetings, and the formation of a by-law steering committee.
Updates will follow.
